After a successful opening day, LOPEC 2016, the 8th International Exhibition and Conference for the Organic and Printed Electronics Industry, concludes today at Messe Munich in Munich, Germany. The trade show, organized by the OE-A (Organic and Printed Electronics Association) and Messe Munich, will feature a strong mix of end users, printed electronics, key suppliers, researchers and universities. After introductory remarks by Wolfgang Mildner, founder and CEO of MSW, the Plenary Session will hear from Dr. Xiolin Yan, CTO and SVP, TCL Corporation Ltd., who will offer insights into “Mainland China Display Industry Technology Now and Future.” Prof. Henning Sirringhaus, University of Cambridge, Cavendish Laboratory, will discuss Low-Temperature Organic and oxide Transistors Enabling Flexible Electronics.” Steven Nietvelt, chief innovation and marketing officer, Cartamundi, will follow with “5000 years long we’ve been playing (board) games together, what’s next?” Prof. Jun Takeya, Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo, will close the Plenary Session with “Technology Development for Printed Digital/Analogue Circuits Based on Organic Semiconductors.” Technical Conference Speakers There are two tracks in the Technical Conference for April 7, 2016. The first Technical Conference track features programs on Functional Materials, Flexible Displays, and Touch. Functional Materials opens with Dr. Wilfried Lövenich, head of the R&D and innovation department, Heraeus Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, whose topic is “Clevios PEDOT Touch Panels and Their Integration with Flexible AMOLED Displays.” Dr. Mike Simms, head of materials development, NeuDrive Ltd, will present his talk on “Recent Applications of FlexOS OTFT Technology.” Michel Molaire, CEO and founder, Molecular Glasses, Inc., will talk on “NONcrystallizable OLED: A Bridge to the Future.” Dr. Miguel Carrasco, program manager, printed electronics, Cambridge Display Technology Limited, will then discuss “Solution Processed Electronic Devices at CDT: Overview of Technology Platforms and Current Performance.” Flexible Displays offers three talks. E Ink Corporation CTO Dr. Michael McCreary is up first with “Flexible Electrophoretic Displays are in Production and Growing.” Ynvisible SA CTO Dr. Carlos Pinheiro Baptista is up next with “Keep Your Cell Phone in Your Pocket! – Printed Displays as a Simple Way to Make Objects Interactive.” Dr. Christoph Patron, scientific co-worker, COPT.Center – University of Cologne, will end Flexible Displays with “OLED Meets Film-Insert-Moulding.” Touch features two talks, beginning with Dr. Dirk Tews, Atotech Deutschland GmbH, with his talk on “EcoFlash: Next Level of Enhanced Isotropic Etchants.” Dr. Wolfgang Clemens, head of product management PolyTC, PolyIC GmbH & Co. KG, will then analyze “Touch and Gesture Sensors Based on Flexible Silver Metal Mesh Films.” The second Technical Conference track focuses on Energy, Wearable Electronics, and Smart and Hybrid Systems. Energy begins with Heliatek GmbH CTO Dr. Martin Pfeiffer, who will discuss “Organic Solar Films from Vacuum Roll-to-Roll Manufacturing for Building-Integrated Photovoltaics.” Prof. Dr. Pim Groen, program manager, Holst Centre, will then analyze “Towards Roll-to-Roll Production of Perovskite Based PV: Challenges and New Opportunities for Printed Electronics.” Dr. Owen Lozman, senior R&D manager, Merck Chemicals Ltd, who will cover “High Efficiency Polymer Semiconductors for Organic Photovoltaics with Improved Stability.” Dr. Gerhard Peharz, senior scientist, Joanneum Research, closes the program with “Printed Flexible Photovoltaic Module Foils Based on CZTS Semiconductors.” Wearable Electronics will offer three talks. Dr. Tapio Fabritius, senior research fellow, Oulu University, will cover “Multimodal Sensor Band – Great Concept but Why it is Not on the Market?” Dr. Thomas Kraft, postdoctoral researcher, Tampere University of Technology, provides his insights into his talk on “Gear Up for the Internet of Everything with Wearable Electronics.” Dr. Gordon Smith, CTO for GSI Technologies, closes Wearables with “Printed Electronics Enabling New Wearable Products.” Smart and Hybrid Systems will be covered by three talks. Alan McClelland, commercial manager, Centre for Process Innovation, opens the program with “The Internet of EVERYTHING: The Manufacturing Challenge.” Dr. Nenad Marjanovic, project manager, CSEM SA, is up next with “Hybrid Electronics Systems by CSEM.” Delektre Ltd. CTO Tommi Rintala closes the second Technical Conference track with his talk on “Active Acoustic Noise Silencer With Printed Electronics.” Scientific Conference Talks The Scientific Conference will also feature two tracks. The first track will cover the topics of Manufacturing of Printed Electronics Devices, Printing and Patterning Processes II, and Novel Printing Methods. The Manufacturing of Printed Electronics Devices program starts with a representative of Sunchon National University, whose topic is “Fully Roll-to-Roll Gravure Printed 40 DPI Flexible Thin Film Transistor Backplane.” Oxford Lasers Ltd’s Riccardo Geremia will discuss “Laser Thin Film Processing for Quick Prototyping and Low-Medium Volume Production of Flexible Displays.” Zhe Shu, Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering (IOF), will focus on “Fully Solution Processed, ITO-free Organic Light-emitting Electrochemical Cells (OLEC) with ZnO Interlayer for Lab-on-Chip Applications.” Dr. Matthieu Manceau of CEA will discuss “Digitally Processed Large Area Polymer Solar Cells.” Printing and Patterning Processes II will feature four talks: Dr. Vincent Faure, Grenoble INP (“Influence of Drying Temperature on Inkjet Printed Droplets Morphology by Using Silver Nanoparticles Based Ink: Relation with Electrical Performances”); Dr. Sanha Kim, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (“Micrometer Resolution Flexoprinting of Conductive Inks Using Engineered Carbon Nanotube Stamps”); Prof. Stergios Logothetidis, LTFN, Department of Physics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (“Short Pulse Laser Patterning Processes for Roll-to-Roll Manufacturing of Organic Photovoltaics”); and Anh Tuan Tran Le, TU Chemnitz (“Integration of SAMBA Inkjet Printhead into an Inline Roll-to-Roll Repairing System”). Novel Printing Methods closes the first track of the Scientific Conference, beginning with Yilei Shen, University Erlangen-Nürnberg, who will discuss “Advanced Process and Material Investigations of Large-area Silver Nanowire Spray Coatings for Maximum Quality.” Melinda Hartwig, Technische Universität Chemnitz, will analyze “Investigation on Inkjet-Printing of Functional Components for the Manufacturing of a Quantum Dot Based Sensor for Mechanical Load Detection.” The track closes with Johannes Maurer, INM – Leibniz Institut für Neue Materialien, whose topic is “Direct Nanoimprint of Metal Nanowires for Transparent Electronics.” The second Scientific Conference track will cover the topics of Sensor Systems and Transistors and Copper-Based and Novel Materials. Sensor Systems and Transistors begins with Dr. Michael Jank, Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems and Device Technology, IISB, who will analyze “Screen-Printed Biochemical Sensors for Sweat Ammonia Levels.” Dr. Herbert Gold, Joanneum Research, will then cover “PyzoFlex – All-Printed Ferroelectric Sensors for a Multitude of Applications Such as 3D Flexible User Interfaces, Large-Area Force and Proximity Sensing Surfaces as well as Energy Harvesting Elements.” Dr. Sergi Galindo, ICMAB-CSIC, will discuss “A Novel Scale-Up Technique for Printing Organic Semiconductors for High Performance Reproducible Transistors.” Dr. Galindo will be followed by Prof. Thomas Weitz, laboratory leader, LMU München Faculty of Physics, whose talk is “Charge Transport in High-Performance n-Channel Organic Field-Effect Transistors.” Kalyan Yoti Mitra, Technische Universitaet Chemnitz, will close the Sensor Systems and Transistors session with “Performance and Reliability Mapping for all Inkjet-Printed Thin-Film-Transistor Arrays Using Industrial Inkjet Accessories.” Yousef Farraj, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, will open the Copper-Based and Novel Materials program with a talk on “Conductive Copper Complex Inkjet Ink with Self-Reduction Mechanism for Flexible Electronics.” Yitzchak (Isaac) Rosen, also of Hebrew University of Jerusalem, will focus on “Developing New Copper Inks for 2D and 3D Objects by Using Self-Reducing Precursors.” Dr. Volker Zöllmer, head of Department Functional Printing for Fraunhofer IFAM, will discuss “Manufacturing of CuNiMn-Alloy Inks for Digital Printing.” Dipu Kabir, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, will close the track with “Patterning CNT-forest for the Fabrication of Nano-Channel OFET of High W/L.”
